Swords! Fencing! Hurrah!
Oct. 1st, 2002 04:33 pmWe held the swords (the foils) for the first time today, in fencing. It was wonderful! Most of the class was all cringy and afraid and "these are scary! you could get hurt with these!" but me and two other girls were having a great time, quoting movies ("My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." and "I am the greatest swordsman that ever lived . . ." etc etc). I love the feel of the foil. I want to learn to be a master swordswoman, to use it with ease and really know what I'm doing.
I love fencing!

Date: 2002-10-14 09:07 am (UTC)*looks thoughtful* It was also complicated by the two years of Tae Kwon Do I did before my knees started going wonky on me. See, get in the basic fencing stance, with your weight 50-50. Then ease back so 70% of your weight is on your rear leg, and that foot points out a wee bit.
THAT is the basic Tae Kown Do resting stance. I appalled Jonathan. Because whenever I picked up a foil, I couldn't resist. The habit was too ingrained.
*lunge, lunge, KICK!!!*
