[livejournal.com profile] etoilepb has pointed me in the direction of Amazon.com's American Red Cross Disaster Relief fund page.

Every time you hit refresh, the number of people donated and the money raised goes up. Even if you just do nothing but sit there hitting refresh refresh refresh. It's gone up $12,000 in the last five minutes of me sitting here.

My faith in humanity is at least a little bit restored today.

I find it hard to be happy. I'm thrilled that people are willing to come forth and help these folks, but I wonder why, when hurricanes killed thousands in Haiti and Grenada, no one cared this much.

I donated then, and encouraged others to do so. :)

Navah, thanks for the link. Have posted it in my own LJ.

*thumbs up* Same here! And then I feel so crappy because I have so little, and so many people need to be helped. :(

I dunno. People can't snap into action every time there's a crisis - as much as I wish they could, it's not humanely possible. But when I see something like this - tangible evidence that people care, that they're helping - regardless of all the oher disasters that didn't get funded, regardless of the horrible amount of casualties and destroyed lives - watching that number rise by the second kind of restores my faith in humanity.
