Hmmph. It seems I haven't yet mentioned my vacation plans here. How odd. Anyhoo. My family's going to Maine for two weeks. We're leaving Wednesday, driving up (Ten hour car trip. Six children. Two RadioDisney fans. Do the painful fuzzy math.) We're renting - of all things - a biodome. Apparently, they put in electricity and cable TV for us this week - up till now, the house ran on solar energy. Apparently, that wasn't acceptable to my mother. It comes with a lake, a canoe, and two kayaks. And it's a biodome. It shall be interesting.
Anyway. So after work today, I was headed for the Mid-Manhatten library on 40th and 5th to stock up on books for the trip. I got waylaid on my way, because there were Goings On in front of the big library, with the lions. I stopped to investigate, and turns out they were filming a movie! It's called "13 Going On 30", and it's got Jennifer Garner (who isn't half as pretty in real life as she was in Daredevil) and Mark Ruffalo (no, I've never heard of him either.) It was kinda spiffy. They were filming this scene of a class reunion, and Jennifer and Mark take a picture and then lots of balloons fall on them, and then Jennifer starts throwing balloons at Mark. They must have done it three times in the fifteen minutes I was standing there, and every time, they had to gather up all the balloons and put them in the thingy to let them fall on them again. It was funny.
I was talking to the producer a bit about it, and then, a man in a suit with a newspaper came over to me and started telling me shtuff about the scene. He wasn't wearing an ID badge like the rest of the crew, so I was like "who ARE you?" He was telling me all these things and I was sort of smiling and nodding and wondering who the heck he was that he knew this shtuff - till the director called for the scene, and he went to be in it. Spiffy!
Finally, I made it to the library. The hardcover section is huge, and has all the best books, so I headed over there - only to find that nearly half the first floor was roped off. There were "Caution: Broken Glass" signs up all over. Frantic, I queried the librarian. Turns out a car crashed into one of the big windows. Now glass is all over everything and it'll take a week at least to clean it up and let it be safe for the public. The library was in turmoil.
And now I must finish packing. We're leaving Wednesday morning, but my dad wants to pack the car tonight. Go figure.
