All right, folks, I've gone and done it. After the response I got to this, I've created a community for us: 400words. It's not quite off the ground yet, but if you're interested, you can head on over there and join, and we can discuss the basics over there.
These instructions are for posting through the livejournal website, not for using an lj client. I use the website, so if you're using a client, ask someone else. If you don't know what I'm talking about, disregard it ;).
Anyway. After you've joined the community, click on the "..." after "Update Journal." Type your post as usual, but on the menu for what journal to post it in, choose "400words" (or whatever community you want to post in), then post as normal.
