Hardback or Paperback? Paperbacks. One, I can't afford buying in hardback. Two, I have such limited bookspace, and I'm stretching it worth wonders as it is - but I have no place to put hardbacks, even when I can buy them for $0.50 at a library sale. Three, I like carrying books around and reading them, and I can't really comfortably do that with hardbacks.
Highlight or Underline? Underline. In pencil. Very carefully, and only when I have to.
Lewis or Tolkien? It's a close one, but I think Tolkien edges out ahead on this one.
E.B. White or A.A. Milne? E.B. White. I love Milne too, but Charlotte's Web and The Trumpet of the Swan...this is the stuff my childhood was cemented in.
T.S. Eliot or e.e. cummings? Eliot. Definitly Eliot.
Stephen King or Dean Koontz? I'm not really a big fan of either. I've never read Koontz though, and I've read a little bit of King. Not a huge fan, though.
Barnes & Noble or Borders? Whichever one is closer. Right now, that's Borders. I think I kind of like Borders more anyway - warmer and fuzzier - but really, I'll take either. I don't really buy books from either one, anyway - mostly I buy used, unless I need the book ASAP for school or something. (Give me Gotham Book Mart! Give me Strand! Give me the used book vendors on 72nd and Amsterdam selling hard-to-find paperbacks for $1 each!)
Waldenbooks or B. Dalton? Again, no real preference.
Fantasy or Science Fiction? While I love both, I think fantasy edges its way ahead on this one. It's what I write more, anyway.
Horror or Suspense? Horror. I'm not a huge fan of either, and I hate hate hate hate hate horror movies, but I like horror books sometimes, if they're really good. And horror intrigues me.
Bookmark or Dogear? I know, I'm a terrible person, but sometimes I do dogear books. I like bookmarking better, though, and I'm training myself out of it - I'll use anything on hand as a bookmark these days.
Hemingway or Faulkner? I love Faulkner. I do.
Fitzgerald or Steinbeck? :admits: I don't really like either very much.
Homer or Plato? Homer Homer Homer. I love Homer to bits and pieces. Read Stanley Lombardo's translation of the Iliad. It is to die for.
Geoffrey Chaucer or Edmund Spenser? Paul Bettany Chaucer! (I had to leave
Pen or Pencil? I only write in black ballpoint pen. But if I am forced to write in books, or write on handouts, it is always pencil.
Looseleaf or Notepad? The looseleaf binder is my friend. So is college ruled paper. (We hates wide ruled paper, precious.)
Alphabetize: By Author or By Title? Um, author. Duh.
Dustjacket: Off while I read it, on while on the shelf. But I own so few hardcovers, that's not really an issue.
Novella or Epic? Hmmm. Depends on the story. Epic, I think.
John Grisham or Scott Turow? I have not read either.
J.K. Rowling or Lemony Snicket? Lemony Snicket is a funny, funny, man. JKR is lovely, too. I'm not a huge fan of either, but I acknowledge that both are good.
John Irving or John Updike? Again, no preference.
Fiction or Non-fiction? Fiction. I love me some fiction.
Historical Biography or Historical Romance? BIOGRAPHY. Ewwww romance ewwww.
A Few Pages per Sitting or Finish at Least a Chapter? If I only have a minute here or there, I'll catch what pages I can, but if I have my druthers I'll finish the chapter. It's why Terry Pratchett's books always kill me.
Short Story or Creative Non-fiction Essay? Short stories. <33333333.
"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"? Once upon a time. No question.
Buy or Borrow? K, so I'm a book addict? Still, I have no money and nowhere to put anything, so mostly it's libraries for me. But be wary when I find a used bookstore with good prices and good books, because then, the lack of money and space thing? Temporarily ceases to exist in my head.
Book Reviews or Word of Mouth? Word of mouth. Reviews can and will say anything - I trust people I know better.
Jane Austen or Charlotte Bronte? Jane Austin. We hate the Brontes, precious.
Nancy Drew or The Hardy Boys? Nancy Drew, Girl Detective.
Frances Hodgson Burnett or Louisa May Alcott? Frances Hodgson Burnett. I grew up on her books.
Tolstoy or Dickens? Dickens, master of padding, patron saint of NaNoWriMo.
Reading first thing in the morning or before you go to bed? Before I go to bed. Every night. Even if it's 4:30 and I have 9am class. Always, always, always.
